ഉണ്ണി ആവട്ടി എന്ന തൂലീകാനാമത്തിൽ കഥകളും കവിതകളും മറ്റുരചനകളും എഴുതുന്നു.
കണ്ണൂർജില്ലയിലെ കീഴൂർ ചാവശ്ശേരി പഞ്ചായത്തിലെ (ഇപ്പോൾ ഇരിട്ടി മുൻസിപ്പാലിറ്റി) ആവട്ടി എന്ന സ്ഥലത്താണ് ജനിച്ചത്.

രണ്ടു സഹോദരൻമാരും ഒരു സഹോദരിയുമുണ്ട്. ഒരു സഹോദരി അടുത്തിടെ മരണപ്പെട്ടു.
ഏഴാംക്ലാസുവരെ ചാവശ്ശേരി ഗവർമ്മെണ്ട് യു.പി.സ്കൂളിലും തുടർന്ന് പത്താംക്ലാസുവരെ മട്ടന്നൂർ ഹൈസ്കൂളിലുമായിരുന്നു, പ്രാഥമിക വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം നിർവ്വഹിച്ചത്. മട്ടന്നൂർ പി.ആർ.എൻ.എസ്സ്.എസ്സ് കോളേജിൽ നിന്നും പ്രീഡിഗ്രി പഠനം പൂർത്തിയാക്കി. തുടർന്ന് തൃശൂരിലെ മണ്ണുത്തി വെറ്ററിനറി കോളേജിൽ നിന്നും വെറ്ററിനറി സയൻസിൽ ബി.വി.എസ്സ്സി & എ.എച്ച് ബിരുദം നേടിയതിനുശേഷം 1986 ഏപ്രിലിൽ കേരള ഗവർമ്മെണ്ട് സർവ്വീസിൽ വെറ്ററിനറി സർജൻ ആയി ജോലിയിൽ പ്രവേശിച്ചു. അസിസ്റ്റൻ്റ് ഡയരക്ടർ, ഡെപ്യൂട്ടി ഡയരക്ടർ എന്നീ തസ്തികകളിൽ ജോലി ചെയ്തതിനുശേഷം 2018 ജൂണിൽ ജോയൻ്റ് ഡയരക്ടർ കേഡറിൽ ലൈവ് സ്റ്റോക്ക് മനേജ്മെൻ്റ് ട്രെയിനിംഗ് സെൻ്ററിലെ പ്രിൻസിപ്പൽ ട്രെയിനിംഗ് ഓഫീസർ തസ്തികയിൽ നിന്നും വിരമിച്ചു. ഇപ്പോൾ തലശ്ശേരിയിൽ സ്വകാര്യ പ്രാകടീസ് തുടരുന്നു.
ഭാര്യ…. എസ്സ്.ശ്യാമള - കേരള ഗ്രാമീണ ബാങ്ക് തൃശൂർ റീജിയണൽ മാനേജർ തസ്തികയിൽ നിന്നും അടുത്തിടെ വിരമിച്ചു.

എല്ലാവരും ഐ.ടി മേഖലയിൽ ജോലി ചെയ്യുന്നു.
ഔദ്യോഗിക ജീവിതത്തിൽനിന്നും വിരമിച്ചതിനുശേഷമാണ് കൂടുതലായും സാഹിത്യമേഖലയിലേക്കും എഴുത്തിലേക്കും കടക്കുന്നത്. അനുഭവക്കുറിപ്പുകളും കഥകളും പലതും വെറ്ററിനറി മാഗസിനിലും തീർത്ഥം മാസികയിലും പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. പത്മതീർത്ഥം, സ്പർശം, അക്ഷരതീർത്ഥം, ശംഖ് തീർത്ഥം, ആകാശം പെയ്ത നക്ഷത്രപ്പൂക്കൾ, കലർപ്പുകൾ, കാവ്യകിരണങ്ങൾ, വിജ്ഞാനമയൂഖം, ഹൃദയമൊഴികളും സ്പന്ദമാപിനിയും, കാവ്യതീർത്ഥം തുടങ്ങിയ കഥാ-കവിതാ- ലേഖന സമാഹാരങ്ങളിൽ കഥകളും കവിതകളും ലേഖനങ്ങളും പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. 2024 ജൂലായിൽ 'ചേര്യാൻമാവ്' എന്ന പന്ത്രണ്ടു കഥകളടങ്ങിയ സ്വന്തം കഥാസമാഹാരം പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചു. 2021 മുതലാണ് സോഷ്യൽ മീഡിയകളിൽ എഴുതിത്തുടങ്ങുന്നത്. മയൂഖം, മയൂരം, നല്ലെഴുത്ത്, സംസ്കൃതി കലാവേദി, സമസ്യ സുസമസ്യ, ഭാഷാമലയാളം, മയിൽപ്പീലി, മലയാളി മനസ്സ് തുടങ്ങിയ ഫേസ്ബുക്ക് സാഹിത്യവേദി ഗ്രൂപ്പുകളിലായി ഇതുവരെ ഇരുനൂറിലധികം രചനകൾ എഴുതിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇപ്പോൾ കുടുംബസമേതം കണ്ണൂർ ജില്ലയിലെ തലശ്ശേരിയിൽ താമസിക്കുന്നു.
ലഭിച്ച സമ്മാനങ്ങൾ
തപസ്യകലാവേദി തൃശൂർ 2024 ൽ സംസ്ഥാനതലത്തിൽ നടത്തിയ ചെറുകഥ മത്സരത്തിലും സമസ്തകേരള വാര്യർ സമാജം മട്ടന്നൂർ യൂണിറ്റ് വായനാദിനത്തിൽ നടത്തിയ രണ്ടു ചെറുകഥാ മത്സരങ്ങളിലും ഒന്നാം സ്ഥാനം, പെൻഷൻ സംഘടന ജില്ലാതലത്തിൽ നടത്തിയ ചെറുകഥാ മത്സരത്തിൽ രണ്ടാം സ്ഥാനം, തീർത്ഥം മാസിക നടത്തിയ ലേഖന മത്സരങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാംസ്ഥാനം, രണ്ടാം സ്ഥാനം എന്നിവ ലഭിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. മട്ടന്നൂർ യൂണിറ്റ് വാര്യർസമാജത്തിൻ്റെ സ്ഥാപകദിനത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് നടത്തിയ ലേഖന മത്സരത്തിൽ ഒന്നാം സ്ഥാനം ലഭിച്ചു. വാര്യർ സമാജത്തിൻ്റെ തിരുവല്ല യുവജനവേദി വായനാദിനത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് സംസ്ഥാനതലത്തിൽ സംഘടിപ്പിച്ച ആസ്വാദന രചനാമത്സരത്തിൽ രണ്ടാംസ്ഥാനത്തിന് അർഹനായി. ഇന്ത്യൻ വെറ്ററിനറി അസോസിയേഷൻ സംസ്ഥാന തലത്തിൽ നടത്തിയ സർഗ്ഗലയ കലോത്സവത്തിൽ ചെറുകഥാ മത്സരത്തിൽ സമ്മാനം ലഭിച്ചു. വേൾഡ് മലയാളി ഫെഡറേഷൻ സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യദിനത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് നടത്തിയ ചെറുകഥാ മത്സരത്തിൽ രണ്ടാം സ്ഥാനം ലഭിച്ചു.
ബേഡകം സാഹിത്യവേദി 2025 ൽ നടത്തിയ സംസ്ഥാനതല ചെറുകഥ മത്സരത്തിൽ ഒന്നാംസ്ഥാനം നേടി ചെറുകഥാ പുരസ്ക്കാരത്തിന് അർഹനായി. ചേർത്തല സാഹിത്യവേദി സംസ്ഥാന തലത്തിൽ നടത്തിയ ചെറുകഥാമത്സരത്തിൽ ഒന്നാം സ്ഥാനം ലഭിച്ചു. സ്വീക്വൽ കലാവേദി നടത്തിയ ചെറുകഥാ മത്സരത്തിൽ കഥാപുരസ്ക്കാരം ലഭിച്ചു. മലയാളി മനസ്സ്.. യു.എസ്സ്.എ ഓൺലൈൻ പത്രം ഓണത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് നടത്തിയ മത്സരത്തിൽ വിവിധ സമ്മാനങ്ങൾ ലഭിച്ചു. സമസ്യ.. സുമസ്യ എന്ന ഫേസ്ബുക്ക് കൂട്ടായ്മ മൂന്നുമാസക്കാലമായി വിവിധ വിഷയങ്ങളെ അനുബന്ധിച്ച് നടത്തിയ മെഗാ കഥാരചനാ മത്സരത്തിൽ അയച്ച 16 കഥകളും മികച്ച ജൂറി പ്രശംസനേടി ടോപ്പ് 10 ൽ സ്ഥാനം നേടി. മയൂഖം പ്രതിഭാ പുരസ്ക്കാരം, സംസ്കൃതി കലാവേദിപുരസ്ക്കാരം, ഭാഷാ മലയാളം സാഹിത്യപുരസ്ക്കാരം എന്നിവ നേടിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. നല്ലെഴുത്ത് ഓൺലൈൻ ഫേസ്ബുക്ക് നടത്തിയ ചെറുകഥാ മത്സരത്തിൽ പ്രോത്സാഹന സമ്മാനം ലഭിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.

Dr. T. V. Unnikrishnan writes short stories, poems, and other literary works under the pen name “Unni Avatti.” He was born in Avatti, located in Keezhur Chavassery Panchayat (now Iritty Municipality) in Kannur district.
His mother was the late T. V. Karthyayani Warasyar, and his father was the late E. Krishnavarier. He has two brothers and one sister; one sister passed away recently.
He completed his schooling up to the 7th standard at Chavassery Government U.P. School, and up to the 10th standard at Mattannur High School. He pursued his Pre-Degree education at PRNSS College, Mattannur, and later obtained a BVSc & AH degree in Veterinary Science from Mannuthy Veterinary College, Thrissur.
In April 1986, he joined the Kerala Government Service as a Veterinary Surgeon. After serving in various capacities, including Assistant Director and Deputy Director, he retired in June 2018 from the post of Principal Training Officer in the cadre of Joint Director at the Livestock Management Training Centre. He is currently engaged in private veterinary practice in Thalassery.
His wife, S. Shyamala, recently retired from the post of Regional Manager, Kerala Gramin Bank, Thrissur Region.

All are employed in the IT sector.
It was primarily after retiring from official service that he became deeply involved in literary pursuits and writing. Several of his experience-based writings and short stories have been published in Veterinary Magazine and Theertham Monthly.
His short stories, poems, and articles have appeared in numerous anthologies, including Padmatheertham, Sparsham, Aksharatheertham, Shankha Theertham, Aakasham Peytha Nakshathra Pookkal, Kalarppukal, Kavya Kiranangal, Vijnanamayoogham, Hridayamozhikalum Spandamapiniyum, and Kavyatheertham.
In July 2024, he published his own short story collection titled “Cheriyanmavu,” comprising twelve stories. He has been actively writing on social media since 2021 and has authored over 200 literary works across Facebook literary forums such as Mayookham, Mayuram, Nallezhuthu, Samskrithi Kalavedi, Samasya–Susamasya, Bhasha Malayalam, Mayilpeeli, and Malayali Manassu. He currently resides in Thalassery, Kannur district, with his family.
Awards and Recognitions
He secured First Prize in the State-level Short Story Competition conducted by Tapasya Kalavedi, Thrissur (2024), as well as First Prizes in two short story competitions organized by the Mattannur Unit of the Samastha Kerala Varier Samajam on Reading Day. He also won Second Prize in the district-level short story competition conducted by a Pensioners’ Organization.
He received First and Second Prizes in essay competitions conducted by Theertham Magazine, and First Prize in an essay competition organized in connection with the Foundation Day of the Mattannur Unit of the Varier Samajam. He was awarded Second Place in the State-level Appreciation Writing Competition organized by the Thiruvalla Yuvajana Vedi of the Varier Samajam on Reading Day.
He won a prize in the Short Story Competition at the State-level Sargalaya Kalotsavam organized by the Indian Veterinary Association, and Second Prize in the Short Story Competition conducted by the World Malayalee Federation in connection with Independence Day.
In 2025, he won First Prize in the State-level Short Story Competition conducted by Bedakam Sahitya Vedi, earning the Short Story Award. He also secured First Prize in the State-level Short Story Competition conducted by Cherthala Sahitya Vedi, and received the Katha Puraskaram in the Short Story Competition organized by Sweekval Kalavedi.
He won multiple awards in competitions organized by Malayali Manassu (USA Online Newspaper) in connection with Onam. In the three-month-long Mega Short Story Writing Competition conducted by the Samasya–Samasya Facebook Collective, all 16 submitted stories received excellent jury commendation and secured a place in the Top 10.
He is also a recipient of the Mayookham Prathibha Award, Samskrithi Kalavedi Award, and Bhasha Malayalam Literary Award, and received a Consolation Prize in the Short Story Competition conducted by Nallezhuthu Online (Facebook Platform).
