പ്രമുഖ റഷ്യൻ ഭാഷാ പണ്ഡിതയു൦ താരതമ്യ ചലച്ചിത്ര പഠനത്തിന് റഷ്യൻ ഭാഷയിൽ കേരള സർവ്വകലാശാലയിലെ ആദ്യ പി എച്ച് ഡി ബിരുദധാരിയുമായ ഡോ സുധാ വാരിയർ ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയിലെ ഹരിപ്പാട്ട് 1939 ഡിസംബർ 28നാണ് ജനിച്ചത്.  കോഴിക്കോട് മെഡിയ്ക്കൽ കോളേജിൽ ഡയറക്ടർ ഓഫ് പോസ്റ്റ് ഗ്രാജുവേറ്റ് സറ്റഡീസ് ഇൻ മെഡിസിനും രോഗനിർണ്ണയ ചതുരനും രാഗനിർണ്ണയ രസികനുമായിരുന്ന പരേതനായ ഡോ ജി കെ വാരിയരുടെ പത്നിയായിരുന്നു 2024 ഒക്റ്റോബർ ഒന്നാം തീയതി തിരുവനന്തപുരത്ത് അന്തരിച്ച ഡോ സുധാ വാര്യർ.

അവർ സ്വന്ത൦ ഗവേഷണ പ്രബന്ധത്തെ അടിസ്ഥാനമാക്കി  രചിച്ച "അനുകൽപനത്തിൻറ്റെ ആട്ടപ്രകാര൦" എന്ന കൃതിക്ക് ചലച്ചിത്ര സ൦ബന്ധിയായുള്ള ഏറ്റവു൦ മികച്ച കൃതിക്കുള്ള സ൦സ്ഥാന അവാർഡ് 2001ൽ ലഭിച്ചിരുന്നു. ഒരു സാഹിത്യ സൃഷ്ട്ടി എങ്ങിനെ ദർശന സൌഭഗമായ ചലച്ചിത്രമായി മാറുന്നു എന്നതിൻറ്റെ വിശദവും വിശാലവുമായ പഠനമാണ് ഈ കൃതി....ഈ വിഷയത്തിൽ ഒരു പക്ഷേ മലയാളത്തിൽ ആദ്യത്തേതും.

ചെറുകഥകളും നോവലുകളും എഴുതുകയും പിന്നീട് ചലച്ചിത്രത്തിനുള്ള തിരകഥകൾ തയ്യാറാക്കുന്നതിൽ കഴിവ് പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്ത്, നമ്മുടെ എം ടി വാസുദേവൻ നായരെ പോലെയുള്ള ഒരു റഷ്യൻ പ്രതിഭയായിരുന്ന ഷൂക്ക്ഷിൻ, എം ടി എന്നിവരുടെ ശൃഷ്ട്ടികളുടെ താരതമ്യ പഠനത്തിനാണ് കേരള സർവ്വകലാശാലയുടെ റഷ്യൻ ഭാഷാ വകുപ്പ് സുധാ വാര്യർക്ക് പി എച്ച് ഡി ബിരുദം നൽകി ആദരിച്ചത്.

1960കളിൽ തത്വശാസ്ത്രത്തിൽ പ്രശസ്തമായ രീതിയിൽ എം എ ബിരുദം നേടിയ സുധാ വാര്യർ 1980കളിൽ ഭർത്താവിൻറ്റെ പെട്ടെന്നുള്ള നിര്യണത്തിനു ശേഷമാണ് റഷ്യൻ ഭാഷ പഠിച്ചെടുത്തതും അത് ഭംഗിയായി പ്രയോഗിക്കാൻ പഠിച്ചതും. ഗവേഷണത്തിൻറ്റെ ഭാഗമായി പൂന ഫിലിം ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ടിൽ നിന്നും സർട്ടിഫിക്കറ്റ് കോഴ്സും റഷ്യൻഭാഷാധ്യാപനരീതികളിൽ മോസ്ക്കോ, സെൻറ്റ് പീറ്റേഴ്സ്ബെർഗ് എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും പ്രത്യേക പരിശീലനവും സുധാ വാര്യർ നേടിയിരുന്നു.

ഇതിനു പുറമേ കവിതാ സമാഹാരങ്ങളും നോവലു൦ ചെറുകഥകളു൦ വിവർത്തനങ്ങളു൦ ഉൾപ്പെടെ 15ലേറെ മറ്റു കൃതികളും ഡോ സുധാ വാര്യരുടെ തൂലികയിൽ നിന്നും ഉദയം ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്.  കോട്ടയ്ക്കൽ ആര്യവൈദ്യശാലാ ചീഫ് ഫിസിഷ്യനായിരുന്ന ഡോ പി കെ വാര്യരുടെ ആത്മകഥയുടെ ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് വിവർത്തനം, പ്രമുഖ ഹിന്ദി ചലച്ചിത്ര നടൻ ഷാരൂഖ് ഖാൻറ്റെ ജീവചരിത്രം, പഴയ കാല മലയാള നടി ശോഭയുടെ ജീവിതം അടിസ്ഥാനമാക്കിയുള്ള ഒരു നോവൽ - ഇങ്ങിനെ കെട്ടിലും മട്ടിലും ഉള്ളടക്കത്തിലും വൈവിധ്യമാർന്ന ധൈഷണിക ജീവിതത്തിന് ഉടമയായിരുന്നു ഡോ സുധാ വാര്യർ.

മഹാകവി ഉള്ളൂർ എസ് പരമേശ്വരയ്യർ ചീഫ് ഇൻസ്പെക്ടർ ഓഫ് സ്ക്കൂൾസായിരുന്നപ്പോൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻറ്റെ അസിസ്റ്റൻറു൦ നിരവധി കവിതകളുടെ രചയിതാവുമായിരുന്ന എ൦ ആർ കൃഷ്ണ വാര്യരുടെ പൌത്രിയായിരുന്നൂ സുധാ വാരിയർ.  വെൺമണി വാര്യം രാമകൃഷ്ണ വാര്യർ - ഇദ്ദേഹം ഹേയ്ഡി എന്ന ഹൃദയഹാരിയായ നോവലിൻറ്റെ വായനാക്ഷമമായ മലയാള വിവർത്തനം തയ്യാറാക്കിയത് ഇന്നും അപ്രകാശിതമായി തുടരുന്നു.- ആയിരുന്നു സുധാ വാര്യരുടെ അഛൻ; തൃശ്ശൂർ കണ്ണമ്പുഴ വാര്യത്ത് സരസ്വതിയമ്മയിരുന്നൂ അമ്മ.ആകാശവാണി തിരുചിറാപ്പള്ളി പ്രാദേശിക വാർത്താ വിഭാഗ൦ മുൻ മേധാവി ഡോ കെ പരമേശ്വരൻ, ചലച്ചിത്ര നിരൂപകയു൦ സാഹിത്യകാരിയുമായ സുലോചന രാ൦മോഹൻ എന്നിവരാണ് മക്കൾ. ബി എസ് എൻ എൽ റിട്ടയേഡ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥ സി വി രതി, അന്തരിച്ച ചാർട്ടേഡ് അക്കൌണ്ടൻറ്റ് എസ് രാ൦മോഹൻ എന്നിവർ മരുമക്കളാണ്. ശ്യാം മോഹൻ, കൃഷ്ണേന്ദു എന്നിവരാണ് ഡോ സുധാ വാര്യരുടെ കൊച്ചുമക്കൾ.

Dr Sudha Warrier was the first person to have been awarded a PhD in Film Studies in Russian Language by the Kerala University. An adaptation of her PhD thesis was awarded the State Government's prize for best book on Film in 2001.

Born in 1939, Dr Sudha Warrier was the grand daughter of one of Kerala's earliest modern poets M R Krishna Warrier, a close associate of the doyen Ulloor S Parameswara Iyer. Her father  was Venmoney Ramakrishna warrier, whose thoroughly readable Malayalam translation of the classic novel Heidi still remains un published. Her mother was Saraswathi amma of Kannampuzha wariyam, near Mala, Trichur. She had been married to the famous intellectual giant and diagnostician Dr G K Warrier, who had served for long as Director of PG Studies in Medicine at the Medical College Calicut.

It was Dr Warrier's unexpected demise in 1982 that led to Sudha Warrier taking up Russian studies in earnest. Earlier, in the 60s, she had already taken an MA in Philosophy with high ranking. Later as part of research work Dr Sudha Warrier undertook Film Studies at the famous Poona Film Institute and special training in Russian pedagogy at Moscow PatrIck Lumumba and St Petersburg universities.

Her PhD was a comparative study on text to film conversion based on an analysis of film scripts prepared by our own M T Vasudevan Nair and the Russian authour Shukshin. An adaptation of the thesis won her the Kerala State Award in 2001.

Besides this Dr Sudha Warrier has published 15 books including poems, novels, translations and biographies. Her translation of Kottakkal Arya Vaidysala icon Dr P K Warrier's auto biography into English has won her wide spread appreciation.

Dr Sudha Warrier's son Dr K Parameswaran retired as Head of Regional News Unit, AIR, Tiruchirapalli. His wife C V Rathi, an electrical engineer, had worked in BSNL. Dr Sudha Warrier's daughter Sulochana Rammohan also writes widely on films and is a creative writer on her own rights. Her husband, late Rammohan was a CA by profession and a TV actor by talents. Shyam Mohan and Krishnendu are her grand children.
