Dr. Madhu M (BE, MBA, MA – Music, PhD – Music) is a distinguished Carnatic vocalist, composer, musicologist and cultural educator who was recently honoured with a Doctorate in Music from the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram, in recognition of his outstanding academic contribution to Indian classical music. Trained under the revered Prof. Tamarakkadu Govindan Namboothiri, former Professor of Music at RLV College of Music and Fine Arts, Tripunithura, he upholds the rich lineage of Carnatic tradition while also excelling in light music composition and performance.
A versatile artist, Dr. Madhu has rendered numerous classical and light music performances on prestigious cultural platforms. He was featured on All India Radio Cochin FM for classical music as early as 1995 and later directed and performed light music for AIR Kochi FM in 1999. His musical talents gained wider recognition when he won Asianet Voice of the Week in 1999 and secured Second Prize in Asianet Voice 2000. Over the years, he has been featured in multiple interviews across All India Radio, Asianet, Doordarshan, Jeevan TV and several other media channels, reflecting his respected position in the field. He is also a Graded Artist of All India Radio in both Classical and Light Music categories.
Throughout his musical journey, Dr. Madhu has received several prestigious honours, including the Augustine Joseph Memorial Award sponsored by Padma Vibhushan Dr. K.J. Yesudas in 1996, and the renowned Swathi Thirunal Gold Medal from the Kerala Fine Arts Society in 1999. He was also honoured with the title of Kalaprathibha at the Alwaye Educational Sub-District Youth Festival and won First Prize in Light Music at the Ernakulam Revenue District Youth Festival in 1996–97.
In 2009, he founded Swaraganga Music School, which today stands as a thriving cultural institution with more than 500 students learning classical vocal and instrumental music through both direct and online platforms. The institution has become a nurturing ground for young talents, providing opportunities for solo kacheris, traditional training and stage performances, attracting learners from India and overseas.
Dr. Madhu’s family plays an inspiring role in extending his musical legacy. His wife, Mrs. Lakshmi Madhu(Cherumukkil Warriam) a former Professor at Rajagiri College of Engineering, is also a dedicated music teacher at Swaraganga Music School, contributing to both academic and musical guidance. Their son, Gautham Madhu, currently studying in Class 10 at Adarsh Vidyalaya, Kakkanad, is a young musical prodigy proficient in vocal music and various instruments, and is already performing solo kacheris across many sabhas and cultural vedhis, carrying forward the artistic tradition with devotion and promise.
With an active digital presence through YouTube (Swaraganga Music School) and other online platforms, Dr. Madhu shares musical knowledge, compositions and educational content, making classical music more accessible to learners worldwide. His journey stands as a harmonious blend of scholarship, artistic excellence and dedicated cultural service.
