1939 ഏപ്രിൽ 8-ന് കേരളത്തിലെ കോട്ടയം ജില്ലയിലെ മറിയപ്പള്ളി എന്ന ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ ജനിച്ചു. പ്രശസ്ത ജ്യോതിഷപണ്ഡിതനും, ജ്യോതിര്‍ഗണിത പരമാചാര്യനും, കോട്ടയം സി.എം.എസ്. കോളേജിലും, ചങ്ങനാശ്ശേരി പെരുന്ന എൻ.എസ്.എസ്. ഹിന്ദു കോളേജിലും ഗണിതശാസ്ത്ര അദ്ധ്യാപകനും പ്രൊഫസറുമായിരുന്ന പുതുപ്പള്ളിവാര്യത്ത് ശ്രീ പി. യു. കൃഷ്ണ വാര്യരുടെയും, മറിയപ്പള്ളി വടക്കേടത്തു വാര്യത്ത് ശ്രീമതി ലക്ഷ്മിക്കുട്ടിയമ്മയുടെയും മൂത്ത പുത്രനാണ്. പരേതയായ ശ്രീമതി പി.എൽ. ലീലാവതി അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ മൂത്തസഹോദരിയും, BSNL ജനറൽ മാനേജറായി വിരമിച്ച ശ്രീ കെ. വേണുഗോപാലും, സ്റ്റേറ്റ് ബാങ്ക് ഓഫ് ട്രാവൻകൂറിൽ മാനേജറായി വിരമിച്ച ശ്രീ കെ. ശ്രീകുമാറും, കോഴിക്കോട് യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി ഭൗതികശാസ്ത്ര തലവനായി വിരമിച്ച Dr. കെ. മുരളീധരനും, NTPC ചാർറ്റേഡ് അക്കൗണ്ടായി വിരമിച്ച ശ്രീ കെ. ഗോപാലകൃഷ്ണനും ഇളയ സഹോദരന്മാരുമാണ്.

ഭൗതികശാസ്ത്രത്തിൽ ബിരുദാനന്തര ബിരുദം നേടിയ ശേഷം കാനഡയിലെ വാട്ടർലൂ സർവകലാശാലയിൽ ഗവേഷണ പഠനം നടത്തി. കേരളത്തിലെ കൊച്ചിൻ സർവകലാശാലയിൽ നിന്ന് സൂപ്പർകണ്ടക്ടിവിറ്റിയിൽ പി.എച്ച്.ഡി. നേടി.

പന്തളം എൻ.എസ്.എസ്. കോളേജിൽ ഭൗതികശാസ്ത്ര പ്രൊഫസറായി സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ച് 1994-ൽ വിരമിച്ചു. സെയിൽടാക്സ് അസിസ്റ്റൻ്റ് കമ്മീഷണറായി വിരമിച്ച പരേതൻ ചെങ്ങന്നൂർ ഉമയാറ്റുകര വാര്യത്ത് ശ്രീ കെ.സി. പരമേശ്വര വാര്യരുടെയും, നങ്ങ്യാർകുളങ്ങര പടിഞ്ഞാറേവാര്യത്ത് പരേതയായ ശ്രീമതി എൽ. ശ്രീദേവിയമ്മയുടെയും മൂത്തപുത്രി ശ്രീമതി എസ്. മായാദേവിയാണ് ഭാര്യ. മുക്ത, മഞ്ജു എന്നിങ്ങനെ രണ്ട് പുത്രിമാരുണ്ട്. ശ്രീമതി മായാദേവി കേരള സർക്കാരിൽ പഞ്ചായത്ത് വകുപ്പിലെ ജോയിന്റ് ഡയറക്ടറായി സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ചു വിരമിച്ചു. മുക്തയുടെ ഭർത്താവ് തൃച്ചംബരം കൃഷ്ണനിലയത്തിലെ ശ്രീ പി. ടി. രാധാകൃഷ്ണൻ ഡൽഹിയിലെ വിശാൽ മെഗാമാർട്ടിൽ Wholetime ഡയറക്ടറായി സേവനം അനുഷ്ഠിക്കുന്നു. അവരുടെ മകൾ, അനഘ ഇപ്പോൾ അമേരിക്കയിലെ സാൻഫ്രാൻസിസ്കോയിൽ താമസം. മഞ്ജു വിവാഹം കഴിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് പാലക്കാട് വെള്ളാളവാര്യത്ത് ഡോ. വി. വി. ഗിരിയെയാണ്. അദ്ദേഹം ചെമ്പൈ സംഗീതകോളേജിലെ സംസ്കൃതം പ്രൊഫസറായി വിരമിച്ചു.

ഏകദേശം 28 വർഷമായി കേരള സർക്കാർ ജ്യോതിഷിയായി സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ച് സർക്കാർ കലണ്ടർ തയ്യാറാക്കി വരുന്നു. ശബരിമല, ഗുരുവായൂർ തുടങ്ങിയ പ്രശസ്ത ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾക്കായി പഞ്ചാംഗം തയ്യാറാക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. ആറന്മുളയിലെ വാസ്തുവിദ്യ ഗുരുകുലത്തിൽ ഏകദേശം 15 വർഷത്തോളം അധ്യാപകനായി പ്രവർത്തിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. അഖില കേരള ജ്യോതിഷശാസ്ത്ര മണ്ഡലത്തിന്റെ സംസ്ഥാന പ്രസിഡന്റായി നിരവധി വർഷങ്ങൾ സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ചു വരുന്നു.

ജ്യോതിഷശാസ്ത്ര പരിഷത്ത് നൽകിയ ദൈവജ്ഞൻ ബഹുമതി, ജ്യോതിര്‍ഗണിതാചാര്യൻ പദവി, തന്ത്രവിദ്യാപീഠം ഏർപ്പെടുത്തിയ ബ്രഹ്മശ്രീ കെ.പി..സി. നാരായണ ഭട്ടതിരിപ്പാട് സ്മാരക ആചാര്യ പുരസ്കാരം, ജ്യോതിഷ-താന്ത്രിക വേദി നൽകിയ ജ്യോതിഷശ്രേഷ്ഠ അവാർഡ്, കേരള വാര്യർസമാജം സെന്റർ ഫോർ അസ്ട്രോളജിക്കൽ റിസർച്ച് ആന്റ് ഡവലപ്മെൻ്റ് നൽകിയ പുരസ്കാരം എന്നിവ ഉൾപ്പെടെ നിരവധി അംഗീകാരങ്ങൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ലഭിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.

കേരള സർക്കാർ ജ്യോതിഷി എന്ന നിലയ്ക്ക് പുറമേ അഖില കേരള ജ്യോതിഷശാസ്ത്ര മണ്ഡലം, ക്ഷേത്ര സംരക്ഷണ സമിതി എന്നിവയുടെ പ്രസിഡന്റായും രക്ഷാധികാരിയായും പദവികൾ വഹിച്ചുവരുന്നു.

അനുഷ്ഠാന വിജ്ഞാനകോശം, വാസ്തുജ്യോതിഷം തുടങ്ങിയ പ്രശസ്ത ഗ്രന്ഥങ്ങളുടെ കർത്താവാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രശക്തി മാസികയിൽ ഉപദേശകസമിതിയിലും, NSS സർവ്വീസ് തുടങ്ങിയ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരണങ്ങളിൽ സ്ഥിരമായി ലേഖനങ്ങൾ എഴുതിയും സഹകരിച്ചുവരുന്നു.

ജ്യോതിഷപരമായ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുകളുമായി സമീപിക്കുന്ന എല്ലാവരെയും നിസ്വാർത്ഥമായി സേവിക്കുകയും വളരെ ലളിതമായ, സൗഹൃദപരമായ പരിഹാരങ്ങൾ നിർദേശിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. അതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ലഭിച്ച ദൈവജ്ഞൻ എന്ന ബിരുദം പൂർണ്ണമായും അർഹിച്ചതാണ്.

ഈ പ്രായത്തിലും വർഷം മുഴുവൻ വിവിധ സർക്കാർ-സ്വകാര്യ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളുടെയും ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളുടെയും ആവശ്യങ്ങൾക്കനുസൃതമായി കലണ്ടറുകളും പഞ്ചാംഗങ്ങളും തയ്യാറാക്കുന്നതിൽ അശ്രാന്തമായി പ്രവർത്തിച്ചുവരുന്നു.

സദുദ്ദേശത്തോടെ സമീപിക്കുന്നവർക്ക് ജ്യോതിഷവും പഞ്ചാംഗ കണക്കുകളും സൗജന്യമായി പഠിപ്പിക്കുന്നതും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സവിശേഷതയാണ്.

Dr. Balakrishna Warrier

Dr. Balakrishna Warrier was born on 8 April 1939 at Mariyappalli, a village in Kottayam district, Kerala. He is the eldest son of Prof. P. U. Krishna Warrier of Puthuppally Variyam—an eminent scholar of astrology, a supreme authority in mathematical astrology (Jyothirganitham), and a Professor of Mathematics who served at CMS College, Kottayam, and NSS Hindu College, Changanassery Perunna—and Smt. Lakshmikkuttiyamma of Vadakkedathu Variyam, Mariyappalli. His eldest sibling was the late Smt. P. L. Leelavathi. His younger brothers are Sri K. Venugopal (retired General Manager, BSNL), Sri K. Sreekumar (retired Manager, State Bank of Travancore), Dr. K. Muralidharan (retired Head of the Department of Physics, University of Calicut), and Sri K. Gopalakrishnan (retired Chartered Accountant, NTPC).

After completing his postgraduate degree in Physics, he pursued research studies at the University of Waterloo, Canada. He later earned his Ph.D. in Superconductivity from Cochin University, Kerala.

He served as Professor of Physics at NSS College, Pandalam, and retired in 1994. His wife is Smt. S. Mayadevi, the eldest daughter of the late Sri K. C. Parameswara Warrier of Umayattukara Variyam, Chengannur (retired Assistant Commissioner of Sales Tax), and the late Smt. L. Sreedeviyamma of Padinjare Variyam, Nangyarkulangara. They have two daughters, Muktha and Manju. Smt. Mayadevi retired from the Government of Kerala as Joint Director in the Panchayat Department. Muktha’s husband, Sri P. T. Radhakrishnan of Thrichambaram Krishnanilayam, serves as Whole-time Director at Vishal Mega Mart, Delhi; their daughter Anagha presently resides in San Francisco, USA. Manju is married to Dr. V. V. Giri of Vellala Variyam, Palakkad, who retired as Professor of Sanskrit from Chembai Music College.

For about 28 years, Dr. Balakrishna Warrier has been serving as the Government Astrologer of Kerala, preparing the official Government Calendar. He also prepares Panchangams for renowned temples such as Sabarimala and Guruvayur. He worked as a teacher for nearly 15 years at the Vasthuvidya Gurukulam, Aranmula. He has served for many years as the State President of the Akhila Kerala Jyothishashastra Mandalam.

He has received numerous honors, including the Daivajnan title conferred by the Jyothishashastra Parishad; the title Jyothirganithacharyan; the Brahmasree K. P. C. Narayanan Bhattathiripad Memorial Acharya Award instituted by the Tantravidyapeetham; the Jyothishashreshtha Award conferred by the Jyothisha–Tantric Forum; and awards from the Kerala Warriers Samajam Centre for Astrological Research and Development, among others.

In addition to his role as Government Astrologer of Kerala, he continues to serve as President and Patron of organizations such as the Akhila Kerala Jyothishashastra Mandalam and the Temple Protection Committee.

He is the author of acclaimed works such as Anushtana Vijnanakosham and Vasthu Jyothisham. He is a member of the advisory committee of the magazine Kshetrashakthi and regularly contributes articles to publications including NSS Service.

He selflessly serves all those who approach him with astrological concerns, offering simple, practical, and friendly solutions. Hence, the title Daivajnan bestowed upon him is truly well deserved.

Even at this advanced age, he continues to work tirelessly throughout the year, preparing calendars and panchangams to meet the needs of various government and private institutions and temples.

Another distinctive quality of Dr. Balakrishna Warrier is that he freely teaches astrology and panchanga calculations, without charge, to sincere seekers who approach him with genuine intent.
