DSWG Annual Day Celebration & AGM 2008, a Report

Dubai Sharjah Warrier Group (DSWG) held its 13^th Annual day celebrations and AGM on the 15^th February, 2008 at Banquet Hall, SPICY LAND Hotel, Sharjah. 

The day long program was packed with two sessions, 3 hours variety entertainments staged by our own talented members in the morning and AGM in the next 3 hours after lunch. The event was witnessed by a crowd of more than 100 people.

The day began with breakfast at 8.30am. Stage programs started with Prayer by Ms. Anjana Anoop.  The budding stars and pride of our group, The Super Star Global fame, Ms.Rashmi Vijayan & the Mr. Talented, Bharat Muraleedharan anchored the program.

Tiny tots on the stage welcomed the audience with “Swagatham Dance”. Colorful dances performed by children of various age groups left the audience in nostalgia of festivals. The instrumental performance (Carnatic Classical) by Mr. Murali Krishnan (flute) and Mr. Manooj Warrier (Mruthangam) was a classic example of the immense talent in our group. Comedy, songs, key board and dance fusion of ladies...all were enjoyed and well received by the audience.   

During the course many new members introduced themselves to the group. Delicious Kerala lunch was served thereafter.

After the lunch at 2:00pm, the stage was cleared for the 13th AGM of DSWG. The meeting started with President’s address in which president thanked each and every member family for their continuous support and invaluable contributions for taking the group forward and making it much stronger every year. In his address, president underlined the need of a forward looking group which not only provide a stage for all the like-minded members of the our group to get together and spend time in a valuable way , but also the need of charity drive to help the needy people  of our community back in our home. He also stressed the need of becoming the inspiration, for other groups working for the community, by communicating various contributions DSWG is making to the needy of our community back home proactively. He also said that the real meaning of charity to needy comes when we help them at the time of their need and not to wait till.

After the president’s address, Secretary Mr. Murali M.V, read out the Secretary’s report outlining various events organized during the year for the members. On the whole 16 programs organized in the current year.

On behalf of Treasurer Mr. Sethu Madhavan, Mr. T. V. Ramesh presented the Treasurer’s report in detail including the charity drive of the group for 2007. DSWG has been giving financial assistance to deserving and economically weak children of warrier community for education up to class XIII. In 2007 financial help was given to 98 students residing all over Kerala. This Education Aid Project has been successfully going on for almost a decade and has given away more than Rs. 8,00,000/-. All these could not have been done without the invaluable contributions from Dr.Bhaskara Warrier and Mr.Gopal Ramachandran. The applications from eligible students were certified by the concerned local warrier samajam units. Thanks to Mr. Unnikrishna warrier for compiling around 150 applications. We have also helped some sick and needy for Medical expenses. We have entrusted Central Warrier Samajam with an endowment fund for giving away awards to 3 students of Plus 2 standard from the commerce stream since last 6-7 years. We understand that the awards are given on the Samajam annual day since its inception.

After open discussions on last years working of DSWG, the elections for the new Executive Committee   were announced by Mr. R. Vijayan (Babuettan).

In an open request all the members unanimously asked Mr. T.V. Ramesh to continue as president for another year so that the group can achieve greater heights under his effective leadership.  This year more new members showed enthusiasm and interest in becoming part of the EC team.
